Question of the day

Tomorrow night I will be having dinner at an Italian restaurant with a bunch of paediatricians.  Do you think they would get angry if I ordered veal?

Yes but do it anyway. Order a starter of baby octopus as well. It'll be worth it.

And baby corn?

I think it would be more of a faux pas if you were dining with a herd of cattle.

Fortunately in that case they would be unlikely to speak English so my order would probably go unnoticed.

What's the collective noun for a table of pediatricians? Is it a toddle? A play-group?

I bet in Germany, it would be a Kinder.

BTW, I think they only get angry if you try and order them all happy meals (wow, happy=anger?).

As it turns out, the collective name for a group of paediatricians having dinner is a rort. We got there a little bit late, got to nibble on some shared entrees that were floating up and down the table, then ate a couple of bits of pizza. By the time we'd done that, most of them had left, leaving meagre amounts of cash to cover their meals AND drinks. So the pizza ended up costing us about $10 a slice.

Hmpf.
